Neutral negotiators, law keepers and bankers, the family brokers between the Fachelli and Marino claimants. It operates the main bank used by all seven Houses and trades information with Luciani to keep agreements credible and disputes intelligible.

Where the saying comes from

At Ponteaccordo, rival roads meet the Avel crossings. Witnessed terms make passage possible, and the main bank settles obligations between Houses whose rulers may distrust one another.

Uphold the law, honour agreements and make treaties hold, without favouring a claimant. Neutrality permits self-defence and the enforcement of terms accepted by the Houses.

When it is heard

When witnessing an agreement, opening a negotiation, accepting a banking trust, or calling signatory forces to uphold a breached treaty.

Across eras, written covenants become community agreements and settlement records. A Vespucci acts for the code rather than a dynasty’s claim; force needs a treaty mandate or self-defence, not a convenient appeal to the motto.

The duty forged in the Doom

Vespucci brings witnessed obligations, banking records and neutral negotiation to the survival pact proposed by Luciani. Its work keeps commitments and shared resources accountable.

The inherited duty in the modern crew

Political players, mediators, treaty stewards, law keepers and fictional banking specialists. They uphold agreements across crews without permanent factional allegiance.

Works with Luciani’s information and records, provides banking to every House, and coordinates signatory forces when a treaty authorises enforcement. Fachelli’s private treasury is separate.

This historical specialty carries into the modern crew. Members can develop secondary skills; the Commission confirms crew placement and appoints actual ranks.

In ancestral Vardessa, Vespucci is neutral between the Houses. It brokers laws, treaties, agreements and order; it does not contest the crown for its dynasty. Defence of its people and enforcement of a shared treaty are compatible with this role.

Treaties backed by the holds

When a treaty is breached, Vespucci can invoke its terms and assemble the forces pledged by the other holds. Each force remains tied to its House and recorded obligation; Vespucci does not permanently own every army. Record the breach, evidence, attempted settlement, participating signatories, mandate and conclusion. Exact levy shares and procedures remain to be developed.

The main bank of the Seven Houses

The main inter-House bank is controlled and operated by Vespucci for all seven families. Its central location links port trade, river crossings, inland estates and upland production. Custody, exchange, credit and settlement make common trade possible even between rivals.

Fachelli retains its dynastic wealth, estates, private treasury and strategic command tradition. Vespucci administers the shared bank; customer deposits are not the ruling House’s private wealth.

The homeland in Vardessa

Temperate river weather, damp spring floods and autumn fog along the river. The central Avel riverlands below the eastern tributary junction, with raised banks and a small number of reliable stone crossings. Roads from both great factions converge at Ponteaccordo.

Every House depends on these central crossings. Vespucci brokers between the Fachelli and Marino claimants, enforces their agreements and controls the main bank serving them all. Law, witnessed obligations and trusted custody underpin its neutrality. Luciani’s northern routes bring information to the bridge markets; the partners exchange knowledge as currency.

Joined hands signify a binding agreement; the silver olive branch signifies peace upheld by law. Royal indigo and silver mark the neutral treaty and banking House. The sigil is a Vardessan institution’s emblem, not an asserted translation of the surname.

Trade partners

Both great factions use its markets. Garbonzo timber and grain, Bambino stock, Luciani dispatches and Lombardo contracts all pass through its brokerage. Marino barge traffic is its strongest physical link.

Music & oral tradition

Verses traded between opposing singers, market bells and measured recitations of witnessed agreements. A truce can be remembered without inventing a peace treaty.

Modern history

Luciani proposes the first union after Cenerath’s eruption: the Ashen Compact brings the survivors beneath the Fachelli crest before they flee Vardessa. Later divisions culminate in the 1935–1940 Red–Blue Civil War between Fachelli and Vespucci, which nearly destroys Garbonzo and Bambino. Luciani brokers the 1940 peace that establishes the seven-seat Commission. The Houses arrive in Montaro in 2026. Shared origin, complementary duties and unfamiliar outside powers make cooperation necessary; unity does not create one bloodline or erase what one family did to another.

What survives the union

Old grievances travel in household stories, pauses and jokes whose humour can conceal resentment. A slight can reopen an old wound, but love, marriages, new alliances and shared challenges can also bind descendants their ancestors taught to distrust. Do not assume either inevitable betrayal or automatic reconciliation: each generation chooses what to carry forward.

Relationships

These relationships begin in Vardessa and carry different pressures into later eras. A House tradition does not fix every descendant’s allegiance. Specific marriages connect named people; sworn banners do not create kinship.

For Code & Order. Uphold the law, treaties and agreements impartially. Vespucci remains neutral between Houses, defending itself when necessary and calling upon the other holds’ armies under their treaty obligations to enforce agreed terms. Its power rests on trusted custody, access, knowledge and the ability to turn a shared promise into collective action.

What the family passes down

Treaty copies name their parties, obligations and witnesses. The main bank keeps each House’s deposits and settlement obligations distinct from Vespucci’s own property. Luciani and Vespucci exchange information as currency; a trusted record and an open negotiating channel are valuable to both.

The tension within the tradition

A neutral intermediary can enforce an agreement without joining a claimant, but every enforcement hurts an interest. Vespucci must show the breached obligation and the basis for calling allied forces. Banking access and privileged knowledge make accusations of favouritism dangerous; the House cannot claim neutrality merely because it says the words.

The House’s early role is established. The founding register fixes the first named households and two Marino–Bambino marriages. Unknown intervening ancestors, additional marriages, oath terms and battle accounts enter the chronology as the Commission and community develop them.
